sensiBel Expands Executive Team, Announces First Commercial Product, Secures Supply Chain in 2025

sensiBel readies for volume production of first studio-quality MEMS microphone in 2026

Oslo, Norway -- December 12, 2025 -- sensiBel, the pioneer in optical MEMS sensing, achieved key milestones in 2025, validating its organizational and market readiness as a microelectronics company in a growth industry. 

Targeting a massive market for MEMS microphones, which Yole Group predicts will reach $1.86B of the overall $19.2B MEMS market in 2030,[i] sensiBel today highlighted the following:

  • December 10, 2025 sensiBel announced AURORA™ and POLARIS™, two plug-and-play evaluation and recording solutions featuring the SBM100B.

  • November 24, 2025 sensiBel announces Jason LaPointe as COO -- LaPointe brings extensive experience in managing global operations and product development teams in MEMS microphones, leveraging experience at Analog Devices, InvenSense, and TDK InvenSense.

  • September 3, 2025 sensiBel appoints new CEO, Kieran Harney -- Harney is an internationally recognized MEMS microphone industry leader who first joined sensiBel as COO in 2022. He founded the highly successful MEMS microphone business at Analog Devices, which InvenSense purchased in 2013. Post-acquisition, he led the MEMS microphone and audio product line at InvenSense, and later at TDK.

  • June 24, 2025 sensiBel launched the SBM100B, the world’s first optical MEMS microphone, a tiny device that delivers the same studio-quality audio as a professional studio microphone that is 50-100x its size. With specifications including 80 dB signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), 146 dB SPL acoustic overload point (AOP), and a 132 dB dynamic range, the SBM100B far outperforms traditional capacitive MEMS microphones.


  • June 24, 2025 sensiBel revealed its supply-chain relationship with a global leader in high-volume MEMS manufacturing, AAC Technologies, which is the company’s assembly and test manufacturing partner.

“2025 was a major year for sensiBel, augmenting our already strong foundation in significant ways,” said Kieran Harney, CEO, sensiBel. “We proved out our optical MEMS IP in silicon by introducing the SBM100B, the first MEMS microphone to achieve true studio-quality sound in a miniature device. Jason LaPointe and I joined our two brilliant co-founders, Matthieu Lacolle and Jakob Vennerød, on the executive team. And our supply chain puts us in a strong position to deliver product to customers at ever-increasing volumes.

Flagship Product: the SBM100B

The SBM100B is the first MEMS microphone to utilize interferometry-based optical sensing technology, delivering studio-audio quality in a compact, production-ready format. 

Delivered in a small surface-mount reflow-solderable bottom port package, the SBM100B supports PDM, I²S, and TDM8 digital interfaces, making it seamless for integration into a wide range of high-volume consumer and industrial applications. 

Target applications include general conferencing, industrial sound detection, microphone arrays, pro audio, and spatial audio -- including ambisonics, VR/AR headsets, 3D soundbars, and field recorders.
