June 2025 – Oslo, Norway – sensiBel, a deep-tech company pioneering optical MEMS microphone technology, is proud to announce the launch of the SBM100B-series, at Sensors Converge 2025. The product has been named a finalist for the prestigious Best of Sensors Award – Best MEMS Solution, recognizing its breakthrough performance bringing studio-quality audio performance to consumer electronics.
The SBM100B is the first MEMS microphone to successfully utilise interferometry-based optical sensing technology, delivering studio-quality audio in a compact, production-ready format. With specifications including 80 dBA SNR, 146 dB SPL Acoustic Overload Point (AOP), and a 132 dB dynamic range, the SBM100B far outperforms traditional capacitive MEMS microphones.
This innovative microphone is delivered in a small surface-mount reflow-solderable bottom port package, supporting PDM, I²S, and TDM8 digital interfaces, making it seamless for integration into a wide range of high-volume consumer and industrial applications.
“The SBM100B represents a major leap forward in MEMS microphone technology,” said Sverre Dale Moen, CEO of sensiBel. “We are thrilled to bring optical sensing to market in a form factor that meets the performance and scalability needs of real-world applications.”
Scaling for Production with AAC Technologies
To support volume manufacturing, sensiBel is working with AAC Technologies as its assembly and test manufacturing scaling partner. AAC is a leading manufacturer of very high-volume MEMS microphones to the industry and their proven capability allows sensiBel to quickly and efficiently scale production.
Technology Breakthrough
The SBM100B is based on proprietary optical MEMS technology developed by sensiBel over several years. It uses laser interferometry to detect membrane movement with extreme precision, allowing for a dynamic range and noise floor not possible with traditional MEMS technologies. This innovation enables ultra-high-fidelity sound capture, opening the door to new applications in mobile devices, true wireless stereo (TWS), smart speakers, wearables, conferencing systems, and beyond.
Looking Ahead
The SBM100B is the first product in sensiBel’s roadmap. Future generations will continue to push performance boundaries, building on this foundation to enable new use cases in professional audio, automotive, and spatial audio.
